Recent Findings on Bacterial Resistance in Acne Vulgaris

چکیده
Resistance not limited to P. acnes. Researchers reviewed studies on the use of antibiotics in acne vulgaris over nearly a 50-year period and found that both correct and incorrect use of antibiotics for acne can promote antimicrobial resistance. Among factors contributing to this resistance are antibiotic monotherapy, long-term administration of antibiotics, and the administration of antibiotics without concurrent benzoyl peroxide and/or topical retinoids. The authors concluded that antibiotics should be prescribed in combination with benzoyl peroxide and/or topical retinoids and be limited to a maximum of several months. Propionibacterial resistance to antibiotics in patients with Acne Vulgaris
Background: Acne vulgaris is a self-limited disease that mainly involves the sebaceous follicles. Systemic antibiotic is a common therapeutic modality, so bacterial resistance can be a problem. Objectives: Assessment of Propionibacterium resistance to erythromycin, tetracycline, clindamycin and spiramycin. Patients and Methods: Sampling was done on lesions of 123 patients with acne vulgaris who...
متن کاملComparison of Topical Azithromycin and Clindamycin in the Treatment of Mild to Moderate Acne Vulgaris
Background: Acne vulgaris is the most common cause for dermatology visits and is one of the most common diseases that people experience during their lives. Although this disease is not life-threatening, it may affect the life quality of the patients because of developing irreparable complications on the skin. Dermatologists are in agreement about topical treatment in the mild to moderate acne v...
متن کاملDetermination of antibiotic susceptibility and Minimum Inhibitory Concentration (MIC) of the Propionibacterium acnes to the prevalent antibiotics in the treatment of Acne vulgaris
ABSTRACTPropionibacterium acnes is propounded as one of the significant factors in occurrence of acne. Today, due to development of the antibiotic resistance, most of the acne treatments are faced with failure. In order to determine the antibiotic resistance of the P.acnes strains isolated from the patients with acne, this research has been carried out. 70 samples collected using microbial cult...

stood, although primary contributory factors have been identified. Propionibacterium acnes, a commensal organism that plays an active role in acne vulgaris, thrives in the presence of excess sebum and has been shown to mediate inflammatory processes at the site of the sebaceous follicle, contributing to the formation of free radical species and generating pro-inflammatory cytokines. Coupled wit...
متن کاملTopical nicotinamide compared with clindamycin gel in the treatment of inflammatory acne vulgaris.
BACKGROUND Systemic and topical antimicrobials are effective in the treatment of inflammatory acne vulgaris; however, widespread use of these agents is becoming increasingly associated with the emergence of resistant pathogens raising concerns about microorganism resistance and highlighting the need for alternative nonantimicrobial agents for the treatment of acne. Nicotinamide gel provides pot...
